What are the 3 FSSAI licenses?

The FSSAI license number is a 14-digit number assigned to authorize Food Business Operators (FBOs). The licenses differ based on the size of the eatery that you will be operating. The tenure for all licenses is the same – maximum of 5 years and a minimum of 1 year.

FSSAI issues the following 3 types of food licenses:

  1. FSSAI Registration (Basic License):
  2.  Food business operators (FBO) such as modest food manufacturers, small-scale manufacturers, storage facilities, transporters, marketers, retailers, and distributors whose annual turnover is below 12 Lakhs must get the Fssai Registration. It is primarily for businesses with a turnover of up to 12 lakh rupees yearly. The State Government issues the FSSAI Registration.
  3. FSSAI State License: Small to medium-sized food manufacturers, storage facilities, transporters, merchants, restaurant marketers, and distributors, among others, must obtain the FSSAI State License. It is primarily for businesses with yearly sales of over 12 lakh rupees and below 20 crores to 30 crores respectively. The State Government provides it, and to receive the State FSSAI License in a particular state, you must have activities in that state only.
  4. FSSAI Central License: FBOs such as importers, 100% export units, large-scale manufacturers, Central Government agencies, seaports, airports, defense, E-commerce operators, etc., must get a Central Fssai License. The Central Government issues the Central license. If you fall under this FBO category, you must also obtain a Central License for your main office, as well as if you operate in more than one state.
